Sisters Helping Sisters Cancer Relief Fund
My Sisters Keeper Philanthropy Projects for 2013-2014
Sisters Helping Sisters: Cancer Relief Fund
This year My Sisters Keeper-MSU Chapter is launching our 1st Annual Cancer Relief Fund. The Sisters Helping Sisters fund exists to help female students within the MSU Community who are fighting against cancer. These funds are available to Spartans who need assistance in covering cancer treatment. The funds are put in place to help offset some of the cost caused by chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries and insurance coverage’s running out. Sisters helping Sisters is a place to help relieve the burdens of our fellow Spartans and send a message of hope, healing and recovery to every Spartan we encounter.
Many Spartans struggle day in and day out with Cancer and My Sisters Keeper has heard the call to help other Spartans make it. The cost can be outrageous when battling cancer and can leave most students in debt. All Spartans don’t have a success story of cancer due to finances and stress; however My Sisters Keeper- MSU Chapter wants to step up and help wherever we can whether that is providing finances, a lending ear, encouragement or a message of hope. We want to help refocus the mission of producing more cancer survivors.
There are many Spartans who have one the fight against cancer within the Spartan Community. Including Scott Zilverberg, Arthur Ray Jr. and Laura Hill just to name a few and some have become alumni of Michigan State University. Some Spartans lost the fight against cancer such as Mary Beth Knox, Cassie Hines and others however we have Spartans who are still in the fight such as Leta Tingle who is currently fighting against cancer and is often faced with the challenge of choosing between treatments and funding for school.
We want to:
*bring awareness of different and rare forms of cancer
*empower cancer patients
*empower survivors
*help eliminate cost
*become an advocate for cancer research, education, and funding.
* Help relieve some of the burdens on the families of fellow Spartans
